China's state-owned company, POWERCHINA will set up its Eurasia headquarters in Istanbul, a company's official said last week.
Dong Juntao, POWERCHINA's Eurasia headquarters’ deputy president said the decision was based on the company's restructure plans for its overseas business in 2016.
"POWERCHINA decided to set up six regional headquarters as POWERCHINA East & Southern Africa, POWERCHINA West & Central Africa, POWERCHINA Middle & North Africa, POWERCHINA Eurasia, POWERCHINA Asia & Pacific and POWERCHINA Americas. The restructure overseas is to regionally manage more than 259 overseas branches and subsidiaries in 103 countries around the world," according to Beijing-based POWERCHINA's Juntao.
"These regional headquarters will further accelerate POWERCHINA's localization and globalization process in order to improve its management system for overseas business," he added.
"Among the six regional headquarters, POWERCHINA Eurasia is in charge of 63 countries including South Asia, Central Asia, Transcaucasia, commonwealth countries and all European countries. POWERCHINA EURASIA decided to set up its headquarters in Istanbul," Juntao said. He cited the reason that they choose Turkey is because it offers a land bridge connection between Europe and Asia, while also being a very important economic and trading partner of China with its advantageous geographical location and lucrative investment environment.
Highlighting Turkey's importance, Juntao elaborated that Turkey will play an important role in global economic development. "POWERCHINA Eurasia is looking forward to expanding and strengthening its business with Istanbul at the center and contributing to economic relations between Turkey and China," he said. "POWERCHINA has a strong relationship with the banks and financial institutions of the world. We have always been looking for a good opportunity to participate in promoting social development through China-Turkey cooperation including direct and indirect investment, and in helping Turkey’s government seek potential investors," Juntao said.
"Turkey and China formed ties owing to the ancient Silk Road, and have also links through the One Belt One Road initiative. As an important link in the new Silk Road and in the traffic thoroughfare of the Eurasia continent, Turkey will certainly play an important role in the global economy," Juntao concluded.
POWERCHINA provides a comprehensive and full-range of services from planning, investigation, designing, consulting, civil construction works, installation and manufacturing services in the fields of hydropower, thermal power and new energy areas, Juntao explained.
